Challenge

Planning restraints delayed the contract award and project start by a considerable period during a period of extreme price fluctuations. The clients fixed budget jeopardised the viability of the project.

Construction of a new 6500 m2 tanker parking facility. Works included:

  • Full new drainage installation incl. pumping station, sewage treatment plant, attenuation and interceptor.

  • Concrete base & preparatory works for new modular office building

  • 3600 m2 nonporous grouted macadam tanker park

  • 700 m2 staff car park

  • New perimeter fence line and automated sliding gates

  • Bunded reinforced concrete base for fuel tank

Solution

Due to shortened contract period we chose to use a new concrete product, which we have much experience of using, which dramatically increased the required characteristic strength within 7 days rather than standard 28, thereby reducing the curing period and contract duration by three weeks.

 

Client Benefits

Working in conjunction with Trident Engineering, Sterling were able to value engineer the project, redesigning the tanker park to increase efficiency, consequently reducing its size and the project cost to deliver a site suitable for the same quantity of vehicle’s, but for a reduced cost in line with the clients budget.
