Adlib Audio - 1000m2 Extension

Client: Adlib Audio

Value: £650,000

Programme: 28 weeks

Challenge: Adlib Audio design, manufacture, lease, sell and maintain all aspects of audiovisual and staging equipment distributing and installing over the UK and Europe. As part of their ongoing expansion, Adlib had purchased a new head office and warehouse in Knowsley, the site of the former Bosch building. The building which had sat empty for a prolonged period of time had unfortunately been subject to vandalism and theft. However, to ensure to company’s growth was not restricted, a non-negotiable move-in date was set, despite a large number of repair works, adaptions and expansion of the building still being required for it to be fit for purpose. Adlib Audio contacted Sterling and following numerous design and cost meetings, Sterling was employed to deliver the required works.

Solution:

The first and most pressing issue was installing a full new electrical supply throughout the building as the existing cabling had previously been stolen. Sterling undertook the design and installation of the complete new electrical installation throughout the building including upgrades to the site’s transformers. Completion of these works provided power to the existing fire alarm, CCTV and air-con systems enabling them to be tested and subsequent repair works and services to be carried out ensuring all systems were in good working order.

With the offices and warehouse areas now lit and with power, Sterling carried out alteration and refurbishment works to the existing office spaces and welfare facilities including DDA compliant alterations and new fire escape routes.

To minimise future security risks, Sterling constructed a large internal storage area, segregated from the main warehouse area complete with new external roller shutter installations to facilitate out of hours loading and unloading of delivery vehicles. Internal walls were constructed in masonry with appropriate fire stopping and oversized internal fire doors to segregate each storage area. New lighting and security systems were installed throughout, isolated from the other areas of the building.

With the urgent works now complete and our client moved into their new premises. Sterling was instructed to design and construct a new 6000 sq. ft 2 storey extension to facilitate a new manufacturing workshop. To minimise disruption to the operation of the now busy warehouse, the works were completed externally before knocking through into the main building just prior to completion. With the exception of a challenging foundation design due to the building footprint running over an existing underground culvert, the relatively simple project was completed on schedule, under budget and fulfilled all of our client’s requirements.

Client benefits: Sterling provided a solution that suited the clients budget. We were able to take on all of the design responsibilities for the scheme as well as obtain planning permissions. Sterling took on all of the risk and promised to deliver what our client required, in line with their non-negotiable deadlines.

"Sterling Services provided a complete solution from Documentation to Delivery. This included an 11,000-volt installation, new plant room and transformer and a new 3000sq ft extension with mezzanine floor. Our £650,000 budget was met, and the works were conducted on time.

We really do recommend them……….An Honest Contractor!"...............................
