Graduate Safety, Health and Environment Trainee Manager

Sterling Services (Northern) Ltd is a well-established construction firm based in Knowsley, Liverpool. The Company comprises of 5 Divisions including a Projects (Project Values up to £1.5 million), Small Works (Project values up to £50K), Civils, Electrical and Cleaning Divisions.

Due to the company’s rapid growth, an exciting new opportunity to join the team as a graduate trainee EHS Manager has come available. We are seeking an organised, highly driven and industry focused person to join our rapidly growing team and company.

The role includes the following:

· Provide competent Safety, Health and Environmental support for our business operations

· Maintain accreditations such as CHAS, Constructionline and Safecontractor

· Implementation and review of the company HS&E policies, procedures, safe systems of work and risk assessments and method statements

· Assist in the compilation of Construction Phase Plans and site-specific HSE documentation to ensure compliance with CDM and all relevant legislation at all stages throughout projects

· Carry out investigations, reports, corrective action tasks and documentation

· Carry out regular site audits and report the findings back to management, please note our sites are spread throughout the UK and occasional travel may be required

· Drive the Sterling Services “Think Safety, Work Safely” Culture

· Ownership of training requirements which includes maintaining the training matrix and ensuring that all staff competencies are kept in date at all times

· Ensure safety equipment is maintained and appropriate records kept

· Assist with new and potential client Pre-qualification Questionnaires

· Employee/subcontractor inductions and onboarding processes

· Carry out toolbox talks, briefings and safety bulletins

· Charing of the monthly HSE Committee meeting

· Represent the business from an HSE perspective to Clients, Employees and Management

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • IOSH, NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent advantageous, however, training and development can be provided for the right candidate.

  • Good stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.

  • IT literate and competent in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Experienced in incident/near-miss investigation, reporting, and corrective actions.

  • Good leadership skills

  • An effective communicator working, effectively, with all levels within the business

  • Strong ‘can do’ attitude with a mentoring, adaptable and a supportive nature as well as the ability to string minded where required.

  • Ideally have a background, or strong and keen interest in construction activities including groundworks, building works, refurbishment works, electrical works etc
