John Flaherty

Business Development Non Executive Director

John has an MBA and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development. He has worked predominantly in the public sector having spent almost four decades with Knowsley Council in roles spanning education, operations, inward investment, regeneration, development and strategic projects.  He has occupied director level roles for the past 20 years and is known for his past twitter handle of ‘Captain Knowsley’. He is credited with accelerating Knowsley’s economic growth, establishing a business focused Major Development Team, ensuring the implementation of the Local Plan and leading the transformation of housing delivery across the borough.  He has led the transformation and renaissance of Prescot Town Centre and has delivered major projects including Shakespeare North Playhouse.  As a Non-Executive Director (NED) for Business Development, he will focus on growing our presence across the local authority, social housing, academy and NHS sectors.

John has four children, three of whom are currently at university and as well as being an Evertonian, he is a big fan of the Lake District and loves spending time there with his family.  His twins are both athletes, one of whom represented England in 2021 winning gold at the Manchester International 4x400m relay, and he and his wife both enjoy watching them compete across the UK.
