project overview
As part of a wider initiative to enhance community facilities and public infrastructure, the external improvement works at Little Sutton Community Centre were undertaken to deliver a safer, more inclusive, and visually improved environment for local residents and visitors. The project involved the reconfiguration of the existing car park, including the removal of aged kerbing and surfacing, excavation and regrading of levels, and the installation of new pre-cast concrete kerbs and tarmac surfacing. Pedestrian access was significantly upgraded through the creation of new footpaths, the installation of tactile paving, and the construction of a compliant disabled access ramp with handrails, ensuring accessibility for all users. To improve road user visibility and site security, overgrown vegetation including hedges and bushes was cut back, and a wider entrance was created by removing the existing gate and associated steps. Environmental improvements included the planting of native hedgerows, trees, and bulbs, along with the restoration of grassed areas to enhance biodiversity and site aesthetics. Site furniture, including benches and handrails, was relocated or replaced to suit the new layout, and existing lighting columns were refurbished and upgraded. Works also extended to the adjacent bowling green building, where external cladding was installed, guttering and downpipes were replaced, and new extraction fans fitted in the toilet facilities to improve ventilation. These enhancements represent a significant investment in local infrastructure, promoting safer access, encouraging community use, and contributing to the long-term sustainability of this important public asset.
