project overview

The project involved the re-construction and improvement of the public car park at Lilford Park in Leigh.

The car park was fully excavated and sub-base reconstructed to new levels to improve falls and reduce flooding. Trees were removed and the car park was extended and reconfigured with new kerb lines to allow for additional parking spaces.

Perimeter fencing, gates and height restriction barriers were installed, to restrict certain vehicles from accessing site. All areas were surfaced and thermoplastic lining installed to demarcate parking bays and pedestrian walkways.

The completed works have provided a much improved and safer, public car park for visitors to Lilford Park.

Challenges

The works were completed in a busy public park, which remained open to the public throughout the project. Public access to the park through the work area was maintained at all times by phasing the work and incorporating temporary, enclosed pedestrian footpaths, ensuring the public were segregated from the work areas at all times whilst still ensuring continuity of access.
