project overview

Incredible Edible – Community Action Day

Incredible Edible is an organisation set up to grow food across Knowsley, transforming unloved patches of land to benefit the local community with all food grown free for all. It brings communities together and aims to reduce food poverty, reduce isolation and loneliness, improve health and wellbeing, improve the environment and educate.

As part of Sterling’s ongoing commitment to social value and taking actions that benefit the environment and society, several of our staff were among volunteers descending on Incredible Edible’s allotment in Court Hey Park in response to a rallying call for people to take part in a Community Action Day.

They included Hollie Earley – Senior Small Works Co-Ordinator and Kate Harvey – Junior Buyer from our Maintenance Division rolled their sleeves up to do some painting and help in the preparation of raised beds ready for the summer crops.

Further Work

Elsewhere Senior Foreman Stan Robinson and Multi-Skilled Operative Terry Dykes, both from our Maintenance Division, helped assemble two polytunnels.

Sterling MD Paul Blennerhassett and Non-Executive Director John Flaherty also dropped by to learn more about the fantastic work Incredible Edible do.  As well as volunteering, members of the public could also visit a recruitment stand with staff providing more insight into the work, they are involved in. Hollie Earley – Senior Small Works Co-Ordinator said: “It was such a great community project; I would recommend everyone to attend to see what amazing things they do for the local community. We will definitely be back with helping hands.”  Incredible Edible has a community food hub open every Tuesday 12pm – 2pm or Friday 11am – 2pm. Here they offer 10 items for £3.50, 15 items for £5 or 30 items for £10. The items include everyday essentials such as milk, butter, toilet roll, cereal, and nappies.  More information here.
