FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS…

Sterling began in 1985 as a family run business and has continued to grow year on year. From initially providing small-scale repair and maintenance services, we now provide a complete Principal Contractor service. We can be relied upon to successfully fulfil all of the roles and responsibilities required, under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

We provide professional and efficient services for schemes ranging from £10,000 – £1.5m. All groundworks and building fabric are

completed by virtue of our in-house staff who have excellent knowledge, skills, experience and their dedication to delivering a high-quality service. We have built our capabilities and reputation upon the assurance of excellence in our customer’s satisfaction. This has been hard won. It has taken many years of attaining and training the right staff whilst ensuring they have the same innate core beliefs as the founding members.

WHAT WE DO

Sterling has an excellent reputation and it has built this reputation, by completing projects to a high standard within extremely stringent and financially-driven calendar constraints. We are sensitive and aware of each client’s challenges and we work within these constraints.

For example; Several years of public sector austerity cuts have compounded the financial difficulties that many of our local authority clients face. We share these responsibilities with them and support them in key ways. Our services and support include the early reporting of potential liabilities for additional spend (allowing maximum time for preventative action, which may include value engineering and/or reviewing project priorities and the agreed project deliverables, for example).

This approach to our desire to share responsibility for the prudent management of a client’s exposure to project risk and financial liabilities is also augmented by agreed levels of anticipated cash flow and anticipated final account reporting, throughout the life of a project. We have found that clients appreciate our approach in order to best support them in their own responsibilities, such as project budgeting and spend reporting.

For over 12 years Sterling has worked with City Facilities Management as their leading alliance partner in assisting with the day to day maintenance of their largest client, ASDA. Sterling offers the key disciplines for a wide range of building maintenance work using in-house management and labour from reactive to planned preventative maintenance and we provide this for a number of high profile blue chip major retail clients.

Our operatives are multi-skilled technicians who offer on-call responses for emergency works of all types. Whether it is the supply of sandbags in flood conditions, the repair of vehicle gates following a traffic accident, surveying car parks for retail clients or even changing toilet seats, we are here to help. Across the UK, Sterling can assist with all of your maintenance support and delivery requirements.

Sterling started out as a ground working company and only later was the additional sectors of the company added. Today we still provide all of the key ground working disciplines such as:

  • All tarmac/asphalt surfacing works
  • Pothole repairs
  • All iron works (gullies, manholes, drainage channels etc)
  • All concrete works
  • Drainage (from surface drainage systems to major civil works)

Our operatives are multi-skilled technicians who offer on-call responses for emergency works of all nature.

Sterling regularly work with clients such as Halton Housing Trust in redeveloping their current stock as well as new build housing schemes. We are currently in our first year of a four-year framework agreement as a member of HHT’s General Building Framework agreement.

Consistent application of smart procedures and processes, combined with our excellent approach to communication, including ensuring timely and effective liaison with all parties, is how Sterling keeps Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) consistently high. Our KPI scores for a range of measures, including time, quality, cost and customer experience aspects of project delivery, virtually always meet or exceed the targets set by clients. In the rare instance of a KPI measure falling below the target, we address this in order to ensure that the necessary improvement is made, communicating with our client throughout.

We have had continuous success with repeat business in this local competitive sector of the industry. Both local authority clients and school representatives alike will often welcome repeat tender success knowing that a successful delivery will be achieved.

With offering the solution of all-in packages of design and delivery, Sterling can offer the assurance of a reliable and one-stop “large contractor approach” to small projects with the client having the confidence of the contract being completed by a contractor who has the resources to successfully overcome problems that may arise.
